In some parts of Asia, notably Burma, Thailand, and parts of India, elephants are still extensively used in forest operations, where the use of mechanized equipment is neither practical nor economic. This photograph taken by a staff member of FAO during the study tour of the Teak Sub commission, shows elephants stacking teak logs in northern Thailand. (Photograph: S. Bunnag)
